NOTES

The money made from the bars is Auxiliary money not shop money.

The convenor orders the bars.

We welcome you to our Auxiliary and trust you will find it fun and rewarding.  We have put the fun in fund-raising and are pleased to be able to buy thousands of dollars' worth of needed medical equipment and amenities for this hospital.  I'm sure you will gain pleasure in giving your time and energy and getting satisfaction and fun and friendship as part of our happy gang.

The Auxiliary, originally ladies who spent their free time building and helping their hospital, now comprises a wide range of people.  Women and men, young and old, working and retired, everyone has a place with us – especially if you are interested in retail or handiwork or administration or sales.

The aim of our Auxiliary is to raise funds for needed equipment, furniture, and amenities for the general comfort and well-being of patients here.  In the first three decades we gladly gave our hospital almost three million dollars in equipment.  We are around the $200,000-per-year level and we select our purchases from a "wish list" provided by the health authority, so we know we are providing the correct things to the correct departments.

Members share their time and energy and talent in the shop, taking the shopping cart to the patients, knitting for babies, selling chocolate bars in the concourse, organizing nearly new sales, taking orders for Christmas plants, and the various aspects of administering these wide-ranging events.  Wow! you may be thinking!  What a list!  It gives us many streams of income and different areas to provide "jobs" for our volunteers.

THE SHOP     is a high-volume store catering to patients (slippers, magazines, newspapers, toothpaste, candy), staff (trendy giftware, cookbooks, kitchenware), and visitors (flowers, cards, umbrellas, china, creams, jewellery).  The volunteer staff and management are extremely professional and committed.  Duties here go from dusting to bookkeeping and most of our active volunteers spend half a day per week working in the shop in one capacity or another.

SHOPPING CART      offers a way to say "hello" and offer a friendly smile to patients wanting a newspaper, sundries, or snacks.  The cart goes out weekdays to a grateful patient and staff clientele.

PURDY’S CHOCOLATE BARS      on sale in the concourse lets people stop and chat and support their hospital.  Hours are flexible.  A chance to sit and serve.  Sit in the concourse with a good book or knitting.

KNITTING      provides the Shop with baby layettes, caps,  booties, etc.  We provide the wool and you transform it.

POINSETTIAS for PATIENTS    is a campaign to sell holiday plants (locally grown and extremely health and long lived) to businesses, clubs, and individuals in order to purchase a special item for the hospital, in partnership with the Victoria Hospitals Foundation.

OASIS@3NORTH:  A PROJECT OF THE AUXILIARY    is the transformation of the rooftop at 3 north into a place to relax or pace for patients, visitors, volunteers, and staff.  The Auxiliary solicited donations and put in their own funds to buy tables and chairs, pergolas, planters with trees and shrubs, and hopes to keep on adding to it.

There are other activities, sales, and opportunities to make money for your hospital.  Please don't be shy and you'll find your niche.  Be aware that when you are volunteering, and only when you are volunteering, parking is covered with a special pass.  Also, you will need photo identification when you're "working".

Congratulations on your excellent volunteering choice.  We're glad to have you with us.  Our meetings are held most months on the third Tuesday at 11 o'clock.

What is IT?

FUND-RAISING for much needed hospital equipment to benefit everybody.  Join your Auxiliary and make it happen.  Make new friends and give back to your community at the same time.  You can do it!

  • Do you enjoy meeting new people with passions similar to yours?
  • Do you like talking to, and listening to others?
  • Do you love to shop?
  • Do you prefer to work quietly in the shadows while others have the limelight?
  • Do you want to give back to your community?

Boy have we got an Auxiliary for you!
We have room for all the above and more.

Come to one of our monthly meetings and find out if we are a fit, then fill out our application for membership, pay your dues ($5) and we’ll take it from there.  Meetings are in the Lecture Hall at The Vic General Hospital (halfway down the main concourse on the left) at 11 o'clock on the 3rd Tuesday of each month.  NB We don't meet in July and August.  Please email me This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call 250-598-3385 for more details.

Our mission is raising funds to purchase items for our hospital.  The Auxiliary raises funds to spend on the hospital.  The members do this with our totally volunteer-staffed hospital shop, by selling chocolate bars in the hall, by our concourse sales, by our Poinsettias for Patients campaign, and more.  We need help, ideas, support, anything you can give.  Have a heart for volunteering.  We are proud to have created Oasis@3North:  A project of the AUXILIARY and welcome donations specifically for it.

To get involved you first need to fill out a membership application and pay your $5 dues.  The Executive will review the application and meet you to see where and how you would fit into which activity.  It can be anything from making coffee, to having good ideas, to standing behind the cash register.  The Shop Convenor will train and assign you to where you best fit.  There are lots of positions of authority too.
