Dear Island Health Auxiliary Volunteers,
May 10th is Healthcare Auxiliary Day in British Columbia in recognition of the significant contribution auxiliaries make in supporting the care and comfort of our patients, residents and clients. We are privileged to know and work with you and I want to take this opportunity, on behalf of everyone at Island Health, to formally thank and recognize each and every auxiliary member for your incredible contribution.
Auxiliary members volunteer thousands of hours of time throughout the year and make a significant financial contribution towards the purchase of much-needed comfort items and medical equipment. Everything you do contributes to our ability to achieve our Vision of excellent health and care for everyone, everywhere, every time.
We know that COVID-19 has kept you home in order to stay safe, and we appreciate this has impacted auxiliaries who have had to pause many activities and close gift shops and community thrift stores. We also know you continued to provide toiletry kits and other much-needed items to our patients and residents during this time, and some of you have been busy at home continuing to knit and crochet. It is with tremendous gratitude and open hearts we reach out to let you know we are thinking of you and we look forward to welcoming you back to our facilities in the coming months.
This year Healthcare Auxiliary Day falls on Mother’s Day, and to every auxiliary member that is a mother, stepmother, grandmother and great-grandmother, I wish you a special day filled with love and happiness. I know it may be bittersweet for those who are unable to be with their families this year.
Time is a precious commodity and we are grateful you are willing to give so much of yours to Island Health. We deeply appreciate your on-going commitment and generous support.
Please be well and stay safe.
