It surprised the members and they were very happy to receive an award.
Deborah Cracknell presented a certificate -- Celebration of Excellence: Community Service & Volunteerism and pins for all the members.
This is what she said in her nomination: On behalf of myself and the Leadership team at Victoria General Hospital, we would like to recognize the VGH Auxiliary for a Community Service/Volunteerism Celebration of Excellence award. Each and every day the women and men of the Auxiliary are volunteering their time in support of better patient care through the behind-the-scenes funding of hospital equipment. In the past few years they have provided more obvious additions to the VGH site which improve the patient, visitor, and staff experience. In 2014 they purchased the outside benches that were in dire need of replacement at the main entrance of the hospital. Here patients and visitors can sit and rest to enjoy the sun, family time or to watch passersby. In 2015 they bought not only 10 new patient transport chairs but gorgeous plants to help beautify the cafeteria. The cafeteria is now a warm, welcoming place for patients, staff and visitors alike. In the summer of 2016 the Auxiliary truly outdid themselves for the betterment of the patient, visitor, and staff experience. They funded over $80 000 dollars for our new rooftop Oasis now called: The Oasis@3N: a Project of the Auxiliary. This space is a welcome refuge from the hectic, stressful internal workings of a hospital. People can congregate here to eat a meal outside, catch up with family, or to enjoy some rest, sun, or shade and relax outside. The Auxiliary worked tirelessly to make this dream-space a reality complete with having our Lieutenant Governor officially open the space. We wish to acknowledge and thank the Auxiliary for all they have given, and continue to give, to the patients, visitors, and staff at VGH. We are proud to work alongside you.
